How do we get Kirby Smart?

How do we get Kirby Smart? was created by UGAChemDawg
Supposing the Tide run the table and bring a national championship to Tuscaloosa, how can we be so sure that Kirby Smart will just up and leave that kind of success and waltz right into the waiting arms of his alma mater?

Loyalty only goes so far. Do you think he'd give up proven success at one of the top programs in the country, and a position virtually guaranteed to get him on somebody important's short list of head coaching prosepcts some day, to come help with a rebuilding job at the school he played for? I think we'll have to pony up some serious cash. Are we prepared to get into a bidding war with Bama over him and make him the highest paid DC in the country?

How much does a NC cost? It would be hard for KS to turn UGA down if the money was right. UGA's problem is not talent. He would not be in a rebuilding situation. We still need some key recruits, but we have athlete's. His name would be just as well known as HERSCHEL after coming in behind CWM. It would really be a perfect chance for him to improve upon his resume. The question should really be \"Is UGA really serious about winning a NC?\" Money talks. Just ask UF and Alabama.

Look at it this way what is more impressive? Having a good defense at bama or taking over a defense in shambles and turning them into winners? Like it or not most assistants are just looking for that next step to the next level and turning around a program in the crapper is a huge stepping stone to a bigger gig. It also makes a good story for the media, former player comes in to save his old team and what pressure would there be here, I mean he's following the worst coach in the nation.

Simple.......right now when people look at Bama's D, they think of Saban first, THEN Kirby Smart. KS is coaching in Saban's shadow because Saban is known as a defensive genious and KS will never get the credit he deserves because of being Saban's puppet.

So, he leaves Bama, becomes THE guy at UGA that turns around a struggling defense (to say the least) and makes a much BIGGER name for himself because no one else will take most of the perceived credit like Saban does.

I think it's a great strategy and move for KS's career.

If I'm Damon Evans and UGA (who notoriously hate to spend money), I'm looking west, but farther west than Alabama. I'm looking at Monroe, LA, at Troy Reffett, the first-year DC at UL-Monroe. Last night, this guy held Arkansas State -- who nearly beat Iowa 11 days ago -- to 263 yards of total offense, and less than a yard per carry on 34 attempts and forced 3 turnovers. Perhaps even more telling is that -- despite their high score -- he held Texas to 363 yards of total offense and ALSO forced 3 turnovers in that 59-20 loss. His style of defense is a swarming, get-to-the-ball style, and he emphasizes speed. Every pundit out there says that the team's turnaround is due to his scheme, and there's no way he's very high on the radar. Not a chance. Imagine what he could do with SEC- and UGA-caliber athletes.

Kirby Smart, Tommy Tuberville, Will Muschamp, etc...none of these guys are realistic prospects, because ALL of them will be head coaches VERY soon. The only high-profile guy out there I'd say go after is Charlie Strong, because apparently the Gods (and racism) won't let him get any head coaching offers. If we're proactive and go after a guy like Reffett, or like Shane Beamer at Va Tech (if his dad would ever let him get away...then again, Bill Dooley WAS the head coach there before Frank...), then we can keep him here. Kirby's here for three years tops before he's a head coach at the next SEC school that fires its head coach after a 5-7 season.
