Week Three: Reggie Brown

This week's Dawg is Reggie Brown.

Reggie never really got the chance to live up to his potential as a Georgia Bulldog. Injuries and the talents of Fred Gibson and Terrence Edwards kept him as a second- or third-stringer most of his career. What I remember Reggie for, though, is always playing his heart out even when the chips were down. He was always a deep threat, and he wasn't afraid to run across the middle, as was evidenced by one of the most frightening things I've ever seen, when he took a helmet-to-helmet from Junior Rosewood in the '04 Auburn game and stopped moving before he hit the ground.

I also remember Reggie for one of the greatest plays that could have been and never was: against Tennessee in 2004, Reggie was wide open in the end zone with 0:01 left with the Vols up 19-14. If David Greene had seen him instead of robotically throwing to Leonard Pope's ghost, we'd be talking about Greene-to-Brown as one of the greatest plays in Georgia history. Reggie always got open. ALWAYS. In that game, Reggie had six receptions for 86 yards. He played his heart out in dreary, losing conditions. A damn good Dawg.

Reggie's been pretty good for the Eagles, mind you, representing the Dawgs and the SEC very well in the NFL. An injury-riddled 2008 has hampered his public profile somewhat, but his first three seasons were stellar. In his rookie year, he stepped up in the first game the Eagles played with T.O. on suspension and caught five passes for 94 yards and a touchdown against the Redskins. He led all rookies in yardage in 2005 and was second in receptions. In 2006, he was named the Eagles' starter and averaged 17+ yards per catch.

When I think of Reggie, I automatically see that hit in the Auburn game and remember thinking......oh my gosh....he's dead!! He's not moving AT ALL.

Very tough WR, great speed, wasn't used enough!!!

wlayton I also thought the worst. I remember standing up and getting as close to the television as possible, like I'd be able to see what was going on better that way. All I could think was, \"He was out before he hit the ground.\" and being furious at the TV color guys who insisted that the blindside helmet-to-helmet earholing by Rosewood was \"a clean hit.\" \"Yep, nothing dirty about that. Let's hope for the best for this young man Reggie Brown.\" I didn't feel that type of anger towards a player again until Keenan Jones ended Mikey Henderson's college career with a helmet-to-helmet in the Sugar Bowl and then gloated about it afterwards.

I'll also remember Reggie for catching the game-winning 22-yard touchdown from David Greene against South Carolina in 2004, when the Gamecocks had us down 16-0 at the half. David Greene led a great comeback, and Reggie nabbed a beaut with less than ten minutes left in the ballgame to complete the comeback.

Yeah dapolla, I remember the announcers making those comments. Man, Rosewood left his feet and \"laid out\" to hit Reggie head to head.....absolutely intentional!!

I personally know how good Reggie is. I played against him in high school, we were cross town rivals and grew up playing against each other since we were about 8 years old. I remember our senior year I was playing middle LB and was covering a TE across the middle and I took a shot to the ear hole from him. I swear my helmet was on sideways after that. Of course he got called for clipping and after the game we joked about it and I told him that I forgave him bc he had already made it known that he was going to UGA. He is a very stand up guy! When alot of players make it big they forget where they come from, not Reggie. He is one of the most humble players I have ever met. Sorry, but I just had to share my Reggie story.
