SEC Assistant Coaches love Lane Kiffin

The salaries that TN is paying for its coordinators and assistants is driving salaries up. It is estimated that an offer to Coach Rodney Garner is $400K. And that is just for an assistants coaches job.

As the man said, a product is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. So I will not quibble about whether any of these coaches are worth their salaries, but Kiffin is certainly raising the bar for coaches salaries in the SEC. His daddy, the defensive coordinator, is reported to be getting over $1M.

Good thing or bad thing? What do Ya'll think?

Raising salaries based on demand in college football is always a bad thing. It leads to Saban-esque contracts. I don't even want to argue about it. College is about building and shaping men and women, not about winning championships. Bidding wars in the college ranks make me sick.

It is my understanding that Lane Kiffin voluntarily reduced his own compensation package so that his coordinators and assistants could get higher pay.

That aside ... it's over. Tennessee now owns the SEC east. I've watched Kiffin for over a decade now. The man is brilliant. He takes mediocre talent in Tampa and turns it into a top NFL defense year after year. If TN can recruit equal talent then I fully expect them to completely dominate any and all opponents. Monte is just that good.

Till they prove it on the field i'm not worried. Monte is a proven coach over the years and acts like he is in his 30's so getting the players to buy into his system shouldn't be hard. i still want to see it on the field! They still have to recruit and play offense in the SEC. just not really sold on the TN team itself.

I'm not either golferdawg. They've always had a good D, that isn't their problem. The next couple of years the proof in the pudding is to see if they can do anything with the offense, it stinks.
