Mike Leach is having a fluke year in Lubbock, no matter what anyone says. Plus, his entire system is based on the fact that the Big 12 doesn't play defense. When Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Colorado actually had defense (which they don't this year), the Red Raiders didn't do squat. You try to bring that mess to the SEC, and you'll throw up numbers on Kentucky and Mississippi State and Arkansas. You'll beat the powers (UGA, LSU, UF, UA, AU) once in a while, once in a blue moon, in a down defensive year. But you're not going to win year in and year out with that mess. And no one can recruit both sides of the ball with that caliber athlete on a consistent basis. LSU did it for about two or three years, as did Tennessee. We've done it about two years running. You can't come into the SEC with the attitude Mike Leach has, the lack of any regional pull, and a gimmick system and expect to get anywhere. Mike Leach is not a threat.
Then again, if the entire SEC has a down year (which happened in 2006 and again this year), a carpetbagging gimmick-oriented coach might have a good year, especially with someone else's players. I'm sorry, Gainesville, do I hear weeping coming from your direction?
