Diamond Domination

The Diamond Dawgs beat LSU last night to take yet ANOTHER SEC series (we have not lost a series to an SEC team all year), win its 10th straight SEC game and our seventh straight overall game, with our last loss coming against Georgia Tech. We are, I believe, three and a half games up in the SEC for the overall lead. Anyone want to comment on Georgia's surprisingly dominant baseball team?

GO DAWGS!!!

I've been following the Diamond Dawgs with much enjoyment this year. They have taken care of business. They are ranked as high as 7th, they swept the #9 team in back to back weeks (one of those being UK, who hasn't been swept by an SEC team since '05), they are like, 13-7 against ranked teams, split a series with FSU, who I believe was #1 at the time. Josh Fields has set the career SEC save mark, and I believe Gordon Beckham leads the country in HR's. Great job by Perno and the Dawgs. I believe this fits in with their \"really sucky one year, really good the next\" pattern. Maybe next year we can break that cycle with a really good yearas well.

I agree. Plus, we've shown that we can come back from monster deficits. In the win over East Tennessee State, we were down 8-1 before winning the game 9-8. In the Sunday game against LSU, we were down 10-3 before scoring 7 in the seventh and tying LSU 10-10 in 12 innings (SEC travel curfews prevented any more innings).

FSU was ranked 3rd when we split with them and has moved to first since. Miami is ranked 2nd. There are, honestly, so many different college baseball polls that I don't even pay attention. We're top ten, where we should be, in all of them so I'm fine. The important thing is what happens during the SEC schedule, what happens at Turner Field and what happens in the tournaments come next month. Rankings be damned. BRING ON OMAHA!!!

I know I just said that rankings were meaningless, but at least those meaningless polls are giving us some meaningful respect. Our Diamond Dawgs are currently ranked fifth in the country. Go Dawgs, and let's take the season series against Kennesaw State tonight!

So after losing their first SEC series of the year (to Florida, two games to one), Georgia's Diamond Dawgs bounced right back this weekend to take a \"best-of-division\" series against West leader Ole Miss, two games to one.

I'm going to tell you all something. This is not just fan talk, this is the absolute truth: based on record, we have not had a team this good since the 1990 National Championship season. I'm a little concerned about our inability to beat Arizona and Oregon State early, though we did take the first game of each series from both teams. But I don't think anyone would argue that the Pac-10 is just phenomenal this year, between Arizona, ASU, Oregon State, Oregon, Southern Cal and the like. That's a tough conference, as tough as the SEC -- and you know how much pride I have in the SEC.

On the other hand, that WAS early, and in baseball as we all know, oftentimes early doesn't count too much. Good God, here come them damn Georgia Bulldogs. Tech better watch out on Wednesday. Foley Field is not kind to Yellow Jackets, and we want revenge for earlier on in the year.

GO DAWGS!!!!
