Here is what Dennis's Dream Dawgs accomplished, just so you have it in writing in front of you:
- First 6-seed to EVER advance to the finals of the modern (since the league expanded in 1992) tournament.
- First 6-seed to ever win that tournament.
- First team in the modern era to win two games in one day to advance to the SEC finals. The last NCAA team to do it AT ALL was Kentucky, in 1952.
- First time a Georgia basketball team has EVER defeated Kentucky in the SEC tournament.
- First SEC Championship in 25 years (since 1983), and second ever.
...and we did it all on Georgia Tech's campus, to shove yet another stick in the eye of that lousy Atlanta trade school. If this doesn't go down with the 1946, 1980 and 2002 football teams, the 2007 men's tennis team, the 1990 baseball team and the 1983 basketball team as one of the great teams in Georgia history DESPITE its below-.500 regular season record and 4-12 conference record, then I'll eat my hat. I said it before, I'll say it again, it is GREAT to be a Georgia Bulldog!!!
*as a footnote, and ONLY as a footnote...massive thanks DO have to be extended to the Georgia Institute of Technology for hosting the SEC tournament (and giving us a home court advantage!) after the devastation that rocked the Georgia Dome. It pains me to do it, but I have to admit that there are some good people over at that school...oh God does that hurt...OUCH!
