87% is pretty close to goose's 90% estimate.

What was the definition of \"tried alcohol\" and what was goose's definition \"engaging in\". Do you see the difference in those phrases? If you ask them \"have you ever drank\" or \"do you drink\" you will get different answers.

Again, I say it isn't anywhere near 90%. I think \"everyone does it\" is an unfair characterization of those who don't. I also think it is a pitiful excuse for those who do. I think we want our football players to be good kids and not just appear to be good kids because they don't get caught. What's more, if you look at the statistics on the NIH web site for those underaged kids who drink regularly you'll find the rate of alcoholism is much higher than in the rest of the population. It *is* a problem, and fortunately it is not one that HCMR or UGA take lightly.

Potato...PotAto, tomato...tomAto.......it is what it is. College kids are going to drink, experiment and have fun. Always have, always will.

Too much about meaningless stats...kids will be kids.

I agree. Can't hold these kids to a higher standard than the one I lived by in my 5+ yrs of college.

Although I think Munzenmaier mouthing off to the cops may not have been the best idea in the world.

rxcowboy, I have no desire to argue the semantics of the NIH's study--I was just posting a fact that I found interesting. Many people have used aclcohol underage, and if these incidents teach them their lessons and they didn't hurt themselves or anyone else, then that's a good thing, IMO.

The SMART era CONTINUES!!!!!!

I must confess. I sometimes imbide. Kids go away and turn into different people than what they are at home, Good kids. I have no illusions about that. I was no saint in college, far from it. If we're lucky we outgrow it and become responsible adults. It's hard being a kid. Personally I think if an eighteen year old can go and defend our country and maybe get killed doing it, they should be allowed to have a drink. Just my two cents.
