UGA TD Celebration Nominated for Play of the Year was created by GooseDawg78
Most folks have mixed feelings about the entire UGA team storming the field & celebrating KNOMO's 1st TD against Florida in the Cocktail Party this year but ESPN has nominated it as 1 of the 12 finalists for the 2007 College Football Play of the Year.
The TD celebration got my vote, but you can vote for whatever play you like at the following web-page (I fully expect for the App. St. blocked FG at UM to win):
sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/sto...ge=collegefbtopplays
I was sitting in the far endzone from the celebration in Jacksonville but in all of my years of attending college football games, I promise you this, I have never, ever, gotten so sky-high, pumped-up, beside-myself, downright ecstatic as I did when I saw the entire Georgia team celebrating on the field as one. At that very moment I knew that the DAWGS were NOT gonna lose the game & I honestly think that most of the Gator fans knew it as well. My gosh, I must have high-fived (and I mean a high-five that left the palm of my hand bloodshot red & made a loud SMACKING sound) every Dawg fan in the entire South endzone.
Was it excessive celebration and worthy of a penalty, well of course it was. Was it in poor sportsmanship, yeah, I guess so, BUT since it was done against the notoriously showboating Gators that kinda nullifies it for me. Ultimately, the biggest reason I voted for this play was because that single celebration gave the Bulldogs, not the Gators, the emotional & psychological edge in the game for the 1st time since 1989 and the team rode that wave of emotion to a 12 point victory.
Like it or not, it is a moment that will always be remembered by college football fans nationwide, especially by Dawg & Gator fans alike. Plus, I guarantee you that for many years to come this single act will serve as a feul to the raging fire that is one of college football's greatest rivalries. Heck, even Wikipedia already has the 2007 contest listed as one of the most memorable games in the rivalry's history under the simple heading of \"The Celebration\". I really don't care what anybody else thinks about it, I will cherish \"The Celebration\" for as long as I live!

I wish I could have been there, the defining moment of the season, maybe the decade.

If the CMR and the boys decided we needed to invade Charleston for the good of UGA I would be driving I-95 north right now.
I love any celebration that annoys the Gators.

The only GOOD thing about this for me as that I now see this game as having the same type of hate and energy as Florida vs. Florida State did in the '90s.
So for that, I'd say the classless act was good for the rivalry.
You know what Gator fans say, \"you can take Mark Richt out of FSU and Miami but you can't take FSU and MIami out of Mark Richt.\"
