Good one wlayton
Great post ChemDawg!
I have a good friend named Tommy whose entire family is HUGE CRIMSON TIDE fans & they used to live in Birmingham. Now I'm not condoning this type of behavior but Tommy once told me that a friend of his family had a cousin who
stabbed (yeah, w/a knife)
his own uncle over the Bama vs. Auburn game. Now if that's not the most passionate rivalry in college football, then I don't even want to know what is. I get so tired of the media pumping the OSU vs. UM rivalry as the biggest & best, yeah, it means alot to the folks up there but to me, it pales in comparison to the hatred of the in-state WAR between Bama & Auburn. On game day in the state of Alabama, you're either War Eagle or Roll Tide & if you don't pick a side, you might not make it out alive. The emotions involved for folks affiliated with either school in this rivalry are beyond comprehension.
My Top 10 National Rivalries
1) Bama vs. Auburn
(It's Time For the Family Feud)
2) Army vs. Navy
(Doesn't EVERYBODY pick a side for this game--GO MIDDIES)
3) Notre Dame vs. USC
(A rich history of games featuring some of CFB's greatest players)
4) Michigan vs. Ohio St.
(The ONLY Weak 9 + Decent 2 game that even matters)
5) Georgia vs. Auburn
(Deep South's Oldest Rivalry--They turned freaking hoses on our fans & the year wasn't 1963)
6) Oklahoma vs. Texas
(The Red River Shootout played in the Big \"D\"--a TRUE neutral site located exactly halfway btw. the 2 campuses)
7) Georgia vs. Florida
(50% putrid Orange 50% glorious Red--It will always be the World's Largest Cocktail Party to me)
8) FSU vs. Miami
(It's like Bloods vs. Crips--Don't they get into a brawl like every other year)
9) Oklahoma vs. Nebraska
(Talk about fun, hard-hitting, old-school \"3 yards & a cloud of dust\" football games to watch throughout the 80's)
10a) Lafayette vs. Lehigh
(Simply known as \"The Game\"--CFB's oldest rivalry)
10b) Harvard vs. Yale
(Also known as \"The Game\"--CFB's 3rd oldest but the more recognized of the Ivy League rivalries)
