Darn it

I was hoping GT wouldn't be able to find a good coach--

ATLANTA -- Navy coach Paul Johnson, who turned one of the country's worst teams into an annual bowl participant, has agreed to become Georgia Tech's next football coach, Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk confirmed Friday morning.

Johnson, who had a 45-29 record in six seasons at Navy, replaces Chan Gailey, who was fired as Georgia Tech's coach Nov. 26.

You know Sadler, I think P. Johnson will indeed do a solid job at GT. No doubt he's a major upgrade over Chan Gailey. However, here's the funny thing to me. My entire office is GT alumni (except me) and they aren't overly excited about his hiring. I guess GT fans know their place and have lost some enthusiasm over the years. 7 straight beat downs in a row by the DAWGS haven't helped em' I'm sure!

Anyways, they are complaining he's got such a bland personality that he will not appeal to the young kids coming out of high school (unlike our wonderful CMR). The triple option or wishbone (whatever he ran at Navy) will not cut it in the ACC (too much defensive team speed) but I'm expecting PJ to run some sort of modified spread offense and GT has the athletes to make it work. Ultimately, I just hope the GT fans are right about his personality and he doesn't turn out to be a good recruiter (especially in the state of GA).

sadlerdawg, Paul Johnson is an outstanding coach. I am not making a crazy statement about a change of coaches . . . Coach Johnson will turn the Bees program around. I personally don't worry about that for this reason . . . . ACC is where GT is, and that was by their choosing. I do not want GT to beat UGA, but they have now moved in the right direction. Not as far as beating UGA, but correcting that program. There is a lot of back and forth between the two universities, but it is not like it was back in the day. Personally, Florida, Tennesse, Auburn are my big games. Wish we played THE Ohio State University each and every year. There I go again . . .

P Johnson WILL turn GT around, he's an outstanding coach. He won't necessarily run a triple option, he will and can adapt to any style. Smart man.

I agree that he is a great coach and will help GT tremendously--I was just disappointed they found a good coach. Hopefully he's not a good recruiter.
