Guess I shouldn't be overly amazed, it seems that since we didn't live up to the 04 media hype and thereby lost our, albeit brief, darling status, most of the bobble heads have been very reserved toward us. It should come as no surprise that the likes of ABC/ESPN lean heavily toward the midwest/west coast conferences and frankly I attribute this mostly to the continued and pervasive belief that the south is somehow beneath our counterparts to the north and west! Nonetheless, the only way we can change this course is to dominate and destroy.
Mark my words, within a week or so, the bobble heads will begin to hype the Sugar Bowl, as if all the criticism and angst they created never occurred. They will produce Zima induced sound bytes and catch phrases, all fair and balanced between the opponents. It will be a calculated effort, not so much to improve or even enhance viewership, that will take care of itself. Nope, this will all be part of the build up for next season and the preseason prognastications, the half hour shows, reviews and ranking of recruiting, the publications and opinions. This stuff sells and sells well. It's perpetual, self fulfilling and damn near self supporting.....and we buy it and into it every year!
It is for those reasons above that I'll desperately miss Munson giving me the play-by-play and I'm certain that the wife would rather not listen to me in a vain effort to copy Larry....
