Thanks, Buc, you're too kind. I think there's there's lots of voices or reason here. It's just too bad Coach Richt can't (or won't) hear them. He keeps making the same comments trying to convince us the D is not a problem--maybe he's trying to convince himself. I hate hearing about how the O or the special teams is putting the D in tough spots by giving poor field position. They do sometimes, but that doesn't mean the D has to roll over and give up a TD within a play or two. Look, I'm sure alot of us watched the UF/FSU game. For those who didn't, due to a kick return and a fumble, FSU started 2 of their early series on UF's 14 and 24 yard line. Guess what they got? 2 field goals. That's why UF is miles ahead of us--their D has ATTITUDE and makes plays rather than excuses.

sadlerdawg, both of your posts above are spot on, couldn't agree with you more and are great points that haven't been made (changes in today's O's).
As far as I'm concerned they can fire the special teams coaches as well!!!!!!!
They have ALWAYS been bad, geez sometimes it's a RELIEF when Walsh kicks it out of bounds and the opponent \"only\" starts at the 40 yard line.

Georgia's defensive play this season has shown that coordinator Willie Martinez is not the person to lead the Dawgs back to being one of the elite units in college football.
Here are the numbers:
2008 Season
25.6 points a game given up in 12 games
27.6 points a game given up in SEC Games
38 points a game given up 5 times
38 points a game given up in 4 of last 5 games
(the only exception was 13 points to a woeful Auburn offense that averaged only 13 points a game in SEC)
Prior to Tech game GA ranked 56th in scoring defense in NCAA and 75 th in interceptions
GA is 2nd most penalized team in NCAA. ( I have no official breakdown but would surmise that most were committed by defense. Many unnecessary personal fouls have kept opponent drives alive.)
A trademark of Martinez's defenses has been the lack of wrapping up in tackling attempts.
Linebackers and particularly the defense backs seem more interested in delivering the big hit with the shoulder as witnessed on the long runs in the Tech game.
Another Martinez defense trademark is the defenses tendency to give up big quarters.
28 in 1st half 2005 West VA Bowl Game (21 in 1st qtr)
37 in 2nd half 2006 Tenn (27 in 4th qtr)
28 in 1st half 2007 Tenn (21 in 2nd qtr)
31 in 1st half 2008 Bama (21 in 2nd qtr)
35 in 2nd half 2008 Florida (21 in 3rd qtr)
33 in 2nd half 2008 Tech (26 in 3rd qtr)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2007 Season
20.1 points given up per game for all 13 games
23.5 points given up per game in SEC games
30 points or more given up 3 times
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2006 Season
17.6 points given up per game in 13 games
21.0 points given up per game in SEC games

CMR is not going to punish or do anything to any coach or player in the press. I am hoping that he makes some changes, but it will not happen before the bowl game. And the press will be the last to know. CWM will be the first. Hopefully, CMR will do what is needed for the program.
If he lets his friendship get in the way, then he will be on the hot seat next year.
And once again, I say that what is missing is a passion and fire to GATA. I just haven't seen it, Moreno is the lone exception.

CMR will NOT fire him, you can take it to the bank.......BUT, he could promote him to Assistant Head Coach and then go out and hire another DC. B. Bowden does it all the time?!!?

Question to everyone......if CMR doesn't replace CWM and we continue with the same problems next year,.....NOW who's the problem? Just something to mull over.

I thought about that too, wlayton, and unfortunately, unless Martinez mans up and resigns a la Jeff Bowden (which isn't likely), we'll probably be crossing that bridge next year.

I'll tell ya sadlerdawg, I've been doing a lot of thinking and have something to share but can't pull the trigger just yet. There's a local sports talk show host that is VERY knowledgable on the NFL and good with the college scene, he LOVES MS and thinks he's THE best QB in the draft. The last 2 years I've been listening to him about the Dawgs etc (won't elaborate) and I use to get sooo mad at what he kept saying, over and over each month over the last 2 years. But after listening to him today.....I'm starting to think he may be right, I just can't make myself regurgitate it up just yet. It would be too painful. Maybe soon.

3 players dismissed by Georgia for team rules violations
ATHENS — Three players have been kicked off the Georgia football team for an undisclosed violation of team rules.
UGA coach Mark Richt announced this morning that defensive back Nick Marshall, wide receiver Sanford Seay and defensive back Chris Sanders have been dismissed from the team. All three are freshmen and were members of Georgia’s 2011 “Dream Team” recruiting class.
The school did not address what precipitated the dismissals.
“It’s a privilege to play college football and to be a part of this team and University,” Richt said in a statement. “Along with that privilege comes certain responsibilities. Mistakes were made, and part of...

UGA has to report NCAA secondary violation due to comments on Harvey-Clemons
ATHENS — Georgia will have to report an NCAA secondary violation regarding its recruitment of Josh Harvey-Clemons. But as far as secondary violations go, they don’t get much more secondary than this one.
Jim Booz, UGA’s senior associate athletic director for compliance, confirmed to The AJC Thursday that coach Mark Richt ran afoul of NCAA bylaws when he commented on Harvey-Clemons shortly after the highly-touted prospect announced on national television his decision to sign with the Bulldogs on Wednesday. Harvey-Clemons’ signing ceremony at Lowndes High School in Valdosta was televised live by ESPN and the sports network also had a reporter...

UPDATED: Harvey-Clemons never wavered on UGA, just had to convince granddad
ATHENS — Josh Harvey-Clemons said he never wavered on his decision to sign with Georgia. He just had to convince his grandfather that it was the best move.
“I just had to sit down with my family and get everybody on the same page,” said Harvey-Clemons, reached by phone Thursday morning in Valdosta. “He was looking at it as Florida was closer. I’ve got a cousin who still plays at Lowndes and my little brother is going to be in high school next year. Florida is only like an hour and 20 minutes away, so he was thinking about going to...
