UGA down to 10th in defense in the SEC barely ahead of LSU and arkansas, that is crap and shows proof that a change needs to be made.

I found the following quote from CMR's press conference interesting.

Given Blair Walsh’s continued struggles on kickoffs, Richt said it’s possible freshman walk-on Jamie Lindley will get a chance to win that job for the bowl.

Once upon a time, I was the main supporter on this board for Blair. Looks as if that was my mistake. Blair has been really, really bad. Almost like a golfer with the yips.

If CMR is willing to take a look at another kicker, why would he not look at the evidence presented to him about his DC. Maybe we have that question answered already . . . .

Every football team has injuries, some worse than others from year to year. However, what we are witnessing to this point is more than finger pointing to injured personnel, appears we have an injured DC. Go Dawgs!

I to just read an article, and CMR was asked about changes on the D staff. He was quoted as saying Oh no, we will learn from this year and we will correct our mistakes, we will strive to get better next year. So if fact, no he is not going to make any changes. We all can expect more of the same next year. The only way CMR is going to make changes, is if his job is treathened. Damen Evans needs to have a heart to heart talk with CMR and let him know this is unacceptable for a UGA defence.

I think this could be part of the D's problems....Coach Richt said this after the UK game when he was defending Martinez (this from the AJC):

“It’s the same basic defensive scheme that we’ve had since we got here. You know, it’s not like a kind of philosophical issue. I mean, the philosophy of our defense hasn’t really changed hardly at all in eight years. And we’ve not been in this spot in the past. So that’s not the problem.”

I think that IS the problem. Our defensive philosophy hasn't changed, yet offenses HAVE changed...dramatically. There's alot more speed--teams are now recruiting track stars and teaching them to play. Alot more spread offenses. Alot more dual threat qb's. Our D does good against the basic pro-set type offense that was prominent in 2000, as we only gave up 7 and 10 against SC and ASU, but against O's with some wrinkles, not so much.

sadlerdawg, have to agree with wlayton, you are the VOICE OF REASON . . . If for no other reason, the powers that are leading the UGA program will surely walk a tighter tight rope in the coming year. Hate it when it is like this, but I certainly hope that the coaching staff has learned from this years experience. Go Dawgs!

swamphox, living in Florida, there was a lot of hype down this way, and nationally as well on Blair Walsh. My one wish for Blair was being able to put the ball into the end zone, which he did in high school. A lot of the college and pro teams are kicking to a corner these days trying to pin the return team to fewer long returns. For me, kick the ball into the end zone and see how many returns make it past the 20 yard line. SEC has always been a conference of field position, controlled by the kicking game. That sure fell through against GT.

  • 3 players dismissed by Georgia for team rules violations

ATHENS — Three players have been kicked off the Georgia football team for an undisclosed violation of team rules.

UGA coach Mark Richt announced this morning that defensive back Nick Marshall, wide receiver Sanford Seay and  defensive back Chris Sanders have been dismissed from the team. All three are freshmen and were members of Georgia’s 2011 “Dream Team” recruiting class.

The school did not address what precipitated the dismissals.

“It’s a privilege to play college football and to be a part of this team and University,” Richt said in a statement. “Along with that privilege comes certain responsibilities. Mistakes were made, and part of...

  • UGA has to report NCAA secondary violation due to comments on Harvey-Clemons

ATHENS — Georgia will have to report an NCAA secondary violation regarding its recruitment of Josh Harvey-Clemons. But as far as secondary violations go, they don’t get much more secondary than this one.

Jim Booz, UGA’s senior associate athletic director for compliance, confirmed to The AJC Thursday that coach Mark Richt ran afoul of NCAA bylaws when he commented on Harvey-Clemons shortly after the highly-touted prospect announced on national television his decision to sign with the Bulldogs on Wednesday. Harvey-Clemons’ signing ceremony at Lowndes High School in Valdosta was televised live by ESPN and the sports network also had a reporter...

  • UPDATED: Harvey-Clemons never wavered on UGA, just had to convince granddad

ATHENS — Josh Harvey-Clemons said he never wavered on his decision to sign with Georgia. He just had to convince his grandfather that it was the best move.

“I just had to sit down with my family and get everybody on the same page,” said Harvey-Clemons, reached by phone Thursday morning in Valdosta. “He was looking at it as Florida was closer. I’ve got a cousin who still plays at Lowndes and my little brother is going to be in high school next year. Florida is only like an hour and 20 minutes away, so he was thinking about going to...
