I think you are totally, completely, and absolutely dead wrong.

Total Defense ranking
2005 #18
2006 #8
2007 #14
2008 #28
Four year average #17

Total Offense ranking
2005 #49
2006 #90
2007 #74
2008 #22
Four year average #59

Now, I realize that \"total defense\" and \"total offense\" only take into account total yardage, but they are still a good measure of how well the offense moves the ball and how well other teams move the ball against us. But there you have it, the defense averages in the top 20 over the past four years and the offense in the top 60. The defense may not perform as aggressively as you would like. You may not like DCWM's defensive philosophy. Muschamp or someone else might do even better. But the defense definitely HAS NOT been the weak link over the past 4 years. In fact, the defense has carried the offense, especially in 2006 when the offense was bad.

If you say so, dawgboy. Stats can be skewed to say anything. I'm a bottom line kind of guy, and IMO, bottom line, we gave up 38 points to a team that has barely scored 38 in their last 3 games combined. We gave up 31 to 'bama in a half, 38 and 49 against 2 other teams this year. 28 in a half against UT last year, 51 to them in a game at home 2 years ago, 28 in a half (or quarter, whichever) against WV. The list goes on. I've been supportive of WM in the past, and I'm not even saying \"Fire him or else\", but he needs to change something. The D doesn't perform in the big games. We have re-established ourselves as an annual top team under Coach Richt, I just don't see us moving to the next level unless the D can make teams dread playing us.

Gotta agree w/ your botton line, sadler. With our defensive talent, and all that CMR does to insure that we keep that talent coming season after season, it's crazy to let an essentially one-man Kentucky team score on us like they did~

The defense should carry you most of the time, you're not always going to be able to score 30 or 40 points. If you do score 30 that should be good enough to win the game. Thats not always the case under WM the opponents points per game have been steadily going up every year. Its a good thing we have the offense we have this year, or you could be looking at a 7-5 season and I don't think we've been hit by injuries on defense near as bad as we have on our offensive line.

I'm hearing a lot of emotion that isn't based on fact.

Scoring defense
2008 #63
2007 #18
2006 #20
2005 #8

The 2006 defense would have been in the top 10 scoring IF the 2006 offense hadn't been so bad. Before this year that's an average of top 15, and even given this year that's an average of top 27. One bad year scoring wise, but the D is still in the top 1/4th of defenses in the country over the past 4.

Y'all call want WM fired if you want. I can't change your minds. But if that is what you want it should be based on fact and not emotion, and certainly not on just the last two games.

I can tell you, though, that firing coaches and hiring new ones is a tricky thing. It doesn't always turn out for the better, even times when it seems like a lock that it should. Think about it.

Total defense:

2006 # 8
2007 # 14
2008 # 28

By your own stats, doesn't that show a decline in defense? What are the opponents points per game for each of those years.. IMO thats the stat that loses you games not the amount of yards they gain. I mean if the other team has 500 yards on you but only 10 points, then your offense isn't climbing a hill the entire game. Once they score a substantial amount on you, your running game becomes nearly void.

RxCowboy, I don't know where you are getting your stats on the D, but I would be interested to know how they stack up against the Vol defenses in those years?

I am not a Vols fan, but Chavous has been the only assistant on that team getting anything out of his players this year.

Mute point anyway, CMR is not going to let CWM go.

The 13th-ranked Bulldogs are 63rd in the nation in scoring defense at 24.9 points per game after their 42-38 win at Kentucky. Among SEC teams, only Arkansas is worse!

Georgia hasn't ranked lower than 20th nationally in scoring defense in Richt's seven previous seasons with Brian VanGorder and now Willie Martinez as defensive coordinator.

  • 3 players dismissed by Georgia for team rules violations

ATHENS — Three players have been kicked off the Georgia football team for an undisclosed violation of team rules.

UGA coach Mark Richt announced this morning that defensive back Nick Marshall, wide receiver Sanford Seay and  defensive back Chris Sanders have been dismissed from the team. All three are freshmen and were members of Georgia’s 2011 “Dream Team” recruiting class.

The school did not address what precipitated the dismissals.

“It’s a privilege to play college football and to be a part of this team and University,” Richt said in a statement. “Along with that privilege comes certain responsibilities. Mistakes were made, and part of...

  • UGA has to report NCAA secondary violation due to comments on Harvey-Clemons

ATHENS — Georgia will have to report an NCAA secondary violation regarding its recruitment of Josh Harvey-Clemons. But as far as secondary violations go, they don’t get much more secondary than this one.

Jim Booz, UGA’s senior associate athletic director for compliance, confirmed to The AJC Thursday that coach Mark Richt ran afoul of NCAA bylaws when he commented on Harvey-Clemons shortly after the highly-touted prospect announced on national television his decision to sign with the Bulldogs on Wednesday. Harvey-Clemons’ signing ceremony at Lowndes High School in Valdosta was televised live by ESPN and the sports network also had a reporter...

  • UPDATED: Harvey-Clemons never wavered on UGA, just had to convince granddad

ATHENS — Josh Harvey-Clemons said he never wavered on his decision to sign with Georgia. He just had to convince his grandfather that it was the best move.

“I just had to sit down with my family and get everybody on the same page,” said Harvey-Clemons, reached by phone Thursday morning in Valdosta. “He was looking at it as Florida was closer. I’ve got a cousin who still plays at Lowndes and my little brother is going to be in high school next year. Florida is only like an hour and 20 minutes away, so he was thinking about going to...
