Actually think your post fits in well DWS. Appears that we have some young men that are going to enjoy the college experience and all it has to offer outside football. Good on these freshmen.

Can't say the same for Honey Badger, seems to be in a downward spiral. He is a good football player, however when someone his size makes it to the NFL, there are loads of players that are good football players. With the policy that LSU has in place, this cat was really living on the outside. Under UGA's policies, he would not have made it out of his freshman year. Sad. . . .and also borders on ignorance.

Every week you hear of players being suspended for violation of team rules. Just goes to show most have the "I" mentality and could care less about the team. Nothing a little stint in the military couldn't correct.

Hate it for the kid, but do have to say I have a little more respect for Miles and LSU.

Edit: Hate it for the other kids on the team. He really let them down.

TN Dawg, looking back, don't think we had as many problems when the "draft" was a way of life. Did have "draft dodgers", but for the most part, when your number was called, it was time to serve. Did have the Jane Fonda's and a lot of the "Hollywood" crowd that liked the American way of life, just did not want to be part of the protection arm. They however enjoyed the benefits of the mighty dollar.

Some of that I am afraid has worn off on a part of the current generations. Takers, not givers. I am proud of what I see going on in Athens with folks like Jarvis Jones and many of the freshmen. Sorry, you hit a nerve.

If it doesn't already exist, someone, somewhere, should put together a video of "All-Everything" college athletes who were supposed to tear it up in the pros, but never made the cut. Of course, Ryan Leaf would be top of the list. Jamarcus Russell. Andre Ware. David Klingler. Ki-Jana Carter. Lawrence Phillips. Brian Bosworth. Akili Smith. Vernon Gholston. Peter Warrick. Charles Rogers. Archie Griffin. Art Schlichter. David Pollack (no offense intended - but that WAS a short career). Terrence Edwards. Fred Gibson. Odell Thurman. David Greene. Honestly, let's be real - Herschel Walker. The list is LONG and DISTINGUISHED.

I would put together a video of their greatest plays when they were in college, really hype them up. Then show how their NFL careers went. Show where they are now. Then give them the stats about how many players in D1 have actually gone on to the NFL.

I'm the first to realize that young men think "that'll never happen to me, 'cause I'm different", but you might at least cause SOME of these guys to come up with a Plan B - maybe see that scholarship as a completely different kind of thing. Not a ticket to the NFL, but rather a ticket to a CAREER, in case the NFL thing doesn't pan out. I'm sure it's been done - there's probably just no getting through to some of these guys.
