Thoughts About UGA Football And Leadership

11 years 8 months ago #47533 by Buc
Sometimes things that are passed along to the media really make sense. If it continues year after year, along the same lines, starts to lose some of its relevancy.

Spurrier has been and will continue to be the biggest cry baby ever in the SEC. Spurrier thought he had what most coaches don’t have and left the SEC to coach professional football. Could insert Saban’s name, however Saban found his niche (again) and refrains from the SS tactic (crying in his beer). The NFL ate Spurrier alive (Saban also). Did not take long for the NFL to say to Spurrier . . . . What you did in college does not work here. Anyone that thinks that did not bring his whining ass back to the college ranks is missing out on the truth.

Spurrier tried his best to return to Florida, there was a small problem with that wish . . . . Jeremy Foley did not want SS back and let him know quickly. Do know more than one BullGator and have some conversations from time to time with folks that are real close to the UF football program. To begin with, the Florida faithful were po’d about Jeremy hiring Meyer and letting SS know that he was no longer welcome in Gainesville. The gator nation was split on whether SS should or should not be allowed back in.

When Meyer came to Gainesville, he did the same thing that SS did when he hired on. Meyer brought a game that was not common to the SEC, same thing SS did when he was hired on. Both were successful, but there is also a common thread between the two. Both are criers, both thought their way was the only way.

Spurrier has drawn some blood from his previous stop at Florida, beat the gators in the Swamp. That was the single largest win in Spurrier’s career. He is going back again and anyone that believes he would rather beat UGA than UF, you don’t understand or know how bad the blood is between Foley/UF Alumni and fans pertaining to Spurrier. Spurrier had never been treated that badly not only once but twice, the NFL and the SEC. Foley does not allow anyone to enter his space until they understand how the game is played. Foley is the BOSS.

McGarity understood that, and it appears he is moving in the same direction in Athens. He was number two in Gainesville for a long period. There are no jobs that can be taken with a 100% guarantee that there is a long range GUARANTEE. Guess on my part, (yep) just watching the changes that have occurred in Athens since McGarity’s arrival, and I think that I see some of Foley’s tactics being employed. All of us will see soon enough. McGarity did not remain in Gainesville for that length of time knowing that he would someday be the Athletic Director at UGA.

My suggestion to Mark Richt is this . . . . Stay on the same path you are on now, you do not need folks that you had surrounding you at FSU. Look at those that you have released from your program at UGA . . . have your fortunes improved . . . . Ask the UGA faithful if they are on board with the hirings the last two or three years. Everyone makes mistakes, some profit from knowledge.

UGA should never accept the reasoning behind UGA not being able to field a top ten football team in D1 football. You accept the Alabama’s, LSU’s and others being a grade above, you are in the wrong profession.

Head Coach Mark Richt, time to coach them up. Talent is not lacking in Athens, has been said numerous times. If a particular coach does not come up to speed, same rule applies, Coach Todd Grantham’s rule, NEXT MAN UP.

Started to say sorry again for being so long, but I will not. I love UGA, I enjoy most that post here and have great respect for those of you that stand your ground. Looks as if our football program is beginning to grow some big ones. (Won’t expound on that) Lord knows I hope so.

Must say this . . . Jarvis Jones, thank you for your leadership, and the best of the SEC will be after you this year. Ain’t nothing wrong with Columbus, Georgia that folks like JJ cannot change.

The ole ball scratch is still crying about the scheduling at the SEC media days. Hopefully we'll just beat the s--- out of 'em this year and give him something to cry about. It's gonna be tough though. GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Buc, probably one of the best post I have read concerning our Dawgs and direction of the program. All truth there. Great stuff.

Sadler, love the ole ball sack comment. Instant classic in my book.

I am now in the "Show me" group as far as Richt is concerned (no Mizzou pun intended . . . okay, maybe a little).

I don't blame all of our troubles DIRECTLY on Richt as some do, but at the end of the day, one man shoulders responsibility for everything. Miles has had NC success . . . Spurrier had it at Florida . . . Saban has had it at LSU and Alabama (twice!) . . . Meyer had it multiple times at Florida . . .

Richt has come close to wearing the ring, and I like that. But I don't LOVE that. I want more than close now.

It's NOT just the lack of NCs - that's too high of a standard for anyone. But COMBINE that with the off-field issues AND all of the all-pro talent we've had over the years, and it gets to be a heavy load for even the most ardent Richt supporter (which I've been all along).

I agree with you, Buc . . . I think things are moving in the right direction, with the latest hirings. But I now think there are two more hires I'd like to see right now . . . one is a ST coordinator (remove the excuses!) and the other is . . . well, YOU know . . .

I won't necessarily call for CMRs job if we don't win the NC (SEC Title will do nicely), but c'mon . . . this year needs to show us lots of progress - we don't often get a defense as stacked as this one (once the suspensions clear - grrrrrr  ) or a schedule that says "undefeated" as this one does.

GATA!

AllDawgs5 really glad to see you back up on the board again. Figure you have been real busy, that is a good thing this day and time. Appreciate the kind words, really feel that all of us are going to know a lot more about UGA football coaches and players when this season unravels.

Two teams that Spurrier is going to pull out all the stops on this season. Florida and Georgia. If South Carolina wins in the Swamp this season, somebody is going to get an ear full. BullGators will fill Jeremy's ears with words that he will not like hearing.

Spurrier knows that he got away with one in Athens last season, said so himself. Second most important game to him, beating the Dawgs back to back to back. That will also raise some questions.

Down this way, the gator faithful that are truly passionate about their football team are sincerely worried about Spurrier returning to the Swamp. Spurrier and the Cocks win that game, opens the door wide open for SS to raid the State of Florida recruiting . . . . big time.

Winning against UGA and UF puts South Carolina back in ATL for the SEC Championship. Me thinks . . .
