Chief, Seth replaced a very good writer, David Hale. Props to the Macon and Columbus newspapers for having both of these men on their payrolls. Wish there were more like both of them. David Hale is now with the Philadelphia Phillies. Had some conversations with David, worried about who would replace him. Good choice, Seth is a straight shooter . . . Seth was hanging out in Columbia, South Carolina prior to this stop, can't hold that against him . . . . me thinks.

Followed Seth when we lived in Cola. Very solid journalist who I have always admired and enjoyed reading. He was never appreciated by the Gamecock faithful because he told the truth. Lot of those guys look at everything through rose colored glasses.

All three papers - Macon, Columbus, and Columbia - are owned by McClathcy.

College Football Live (ESPN) featured UGA today. Very interesting what the panel had to say about our Dawgs, schedule, offense and defense. David Pollack is a regular member on the panel and I found a couple of his comments interesting today.

David is totally impressed with the way the defense has changed direction under Grantham. David knows a bit about defense, we watched him and came away with appreciation not only for the football player, the man he is. Can still picture David and Ray Drew standing together after we got the good news about Ray Drew signing with UGA. That story is yet to be told, maybe this season.

David also mentioned the offensive side and the talent that resides there now. One of the comments that he made that I think many of us have discussed before was this . . . . The offense needs to break out of the same play calling that has been in place for far too long. This is not kicking anyone to the curb, it does however make me and many others that I know happy to hear that coming from a very good, loyal UGA Football Player that left his mark on UGA and College football.

DP also made a point that moving Malcolm Mitchell from the offensive side of the ball to the defensive side shows just how much talent the offense has. I have to agree with DP on that point, very good point at that. I believe that this puts added pressure on the offensive coaches, especially when DP would never do or say anything that would hurt the Red and Black. This outstanding football player (once upon a time) is being totally honest on how he views the 2012 UGA Football Team. David mentioned the offensive line, he did not however come across with gloom and doom.

It appears that our schedule along with the talent that is on campus has gotten the attention of many folks in the media and forecasters. I agree with a comment that TN Dawg made a short time back. TN Dawg said that he did not care to hear about the soft schedule, and I have to agree. With Missouri and TAM coming into the conference, we got what appears to be another reprieve . . . Not having to face Alabama, LSU and Arkansas. UGA did not make this schedule up and submit it for approval, comes from the top. Appears that we have a real shot to return to Atlanta and face one of the three teams above that we did not have to play in the regular season.

Comes down to this on paper and internet chatter. I think that Mark Richt and Mike Bobo have more on their plates this year than last year when the “hot seat” was being discussed. Much pressure on the offensive coaches to maybe listen to a proven UGA Star, David Pollack, get away from the same old play calling, add a few more wrinkles and make the likes of Steve Spurrier have to study our team from an unknown standpoint. I am with you David Pollack as are many others.

Go Dawgs, coach’em up. . . .

I listen to Seth every morning on the way in to work, he holds no punches and says it like it is, plus he is just a good ole country boy no BS. I also like to listen to Bill Shanks so I get a well rounded outlook for the DAWGS. These two seem to do the homework. GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was just checking on another forum, something I've only done once or twice in the last 3 years, and quite a mistake. My goodness. UGA fans sure do hate each other and their own team. But while perusing the intellectual offerings, one of the most intelligent posters appeared to be a Florida fan, sadly. This wuss offered up the following, which I've noted has been posted by more than one UGA fan, weirdly enough: UGA plays a weak schedule.

Let's take a VERY close look at that statement.

Fact. There were 12 teams in the SEC (up until this year, of course).

Fact. UGA is ONE of those 12 teams, so we automatically can't play EVERY team in the conference. That means the maximum number of SEC teams we would ever be ABLE to play would be 11.

Fact. We have to play GT, for some reason. Therefore the maximum number of SEC games we can play would be 10. Someone has to not be played. So that means we can't play us and, let's say, Ole Miss, and still have a schedule that isn't "weak".

Fact. The SEC sets up its schedule so that everyone plays only 8 conference games. That means there will be 3 teams that your team won't play (during the regular season).

I just checked, and last year UGA played every team in the conference except Alabama and Arkansas. That's a fact. We also played one of our non-conference games against a top five team. Fact. We also played a bowl game against a team that wound up in the top 10. Fact.

Fact? The SEC is the toughest conference in college football? Fact or not?

If it IS a fact, then UGA played 9 teams in the toughest conference in the nation, won their division, and only lost two of those games.

How weak COULD our schedule have been? How weak is it this year? Maybe it's not "Big 10" tough? "Pac 10" tough? "Big 12" tough? "Sunbelt" tough?

Heck. Let's play a "tough" schedule. Drop every non-conference game and play every team in the conference. Oh wait . . . that's not possible either.

Sheesh.

So here is my proposed schedule, in order to make sure we don't play a "weak" schedule in the toughest conference in college football, in this order:

1. Alabama
2. LSU
3. Arkansas
4. South Carolina
5. Alabama again
6. LSU again
7. Arkansas again
8. South Carolina again
Now we start the non-conference part of the schedule:
9. So. Cal.
10. Oklahoma
11. Oregon
12. Wisconsin

So there you have it, a schedule that by any standard, should be considered "not weak". Ok, I'll admit it's not "tough", but at least it's not "weak".

Sorry . . . but it's always a head-scratcher for me when I hear about "weak" SEC schedules.

I love this time of year, I really do. Go Dawgs.

We always seem to spend this time tempering our dreams with the hammer of reality. Every pre-season we get giddy because, let's face it, we OUGHT to be in the mix every season with the talent that filters through Athens.

Then, there's that pesky hammer.

Kids get in trouble, as they do, and have to sit out games. Breaks don't go our way and we lose games we should have won (the reverse is also true.) Then, at the end of the season, we are disappointed by the final tally, and our mantra of "maybe next year" becomes our comfort.

Sheesh.

Mark Richt has averaged 9.6 wins a season, regardless of what's thought of him. CTG has turned around WM's defense in the short span of two seasons into a beast of a machine. We're going to litter the NFL draft next year with Dawgs. That said, I'm not going to fall into the trap of trying to prognosticate on the upcoming season. That always seems to set me up for indigestion. So, this season, I'm taking things one week at a time. As it sits right now, I hope we start 1-0. I'll chirp about game two if we start 1-0.

As always LimeyDawg a post that says so much if one can read between the lines. Beginning to like this "one game at a time" statement.
