From Athens - Send some sunshine

Good Morning All,
Wet
Cold
Dreary
Mind-numbing
What was last week in Athens- all the above!
Spent quality time enjoying the fireplace with the wife watching the NFL playoffs games.
Seems that even the pro’s can lose by missing a FG.
One of the great things about sports at any level.
Expect the unexpected!
Or something about it’s never over until an overweight female croons!
As long as some of us are crystal balling how the season will go for us, try this on.
We play this soft schedule and go 12-0,play in the SECCG and the West’s QB is knocked out on their first play and we win.
On to the NC game and CMR calls a bubble screen for a 70 yard TD with 6 seconds left in the game and we win our first NC in 32 years.
Would it then be a lack luster and a hollow NC as we only beat two “good” teams? Maybe an asterisk in the record book would work.
Just asking – yes it is very far fetched –
However we can all site numerous cases in various sports that rise to a higher level of improbability.
I can hear the disclaimer now on why this can’t happen.
We will have no luck and can’t win a big game or a NC - as long as CMR and CMB are coaches at UGA! Or as long as the sun rises in the east.
Me I say let’s play the season out; order your Tums early.
I don’t think Vegas picked Cam and Chezzstick two years ago.
Not much chatter coming off campus, which I view as a good thing. Time to focus on signing day.
I did hear that AM – aka Robin Hood and his merry band have been working out regularly getting KM feeling at home. I like it, band of brothers works.
Pause and give thanks – we are blessed
Have a great weekend and a safe week.
As always – “Go Dawgs”

yankeedawg1, even though the weather has shown its ugly side, something good to be said for sitting in front of the fireplace. Back in the day, the homes were all heated with coal or wood and the meals cooked the same way, on wood burning stoves. That is when the biscuits were the best ever.
With some of the happenings of recent years, think that maybe a lot of us have had our senses dulled a bit. You are right about Cam, many missed on him and his football prowess. Including UGA who wanted Cam as a tight end. Had Cam consented to that, he would have been one of the best ever at that position. Regardless of the "stuff" surrounding Cam, he was blessed by the Lord with talent that does not come along often.
As for Chizik, think it goes something like a blind hog finding an acrorn. yd1 will be interesting to see how the recruiting goes for him this recruiting year.
AM is a "junky" . . . . was in high school and remains that way in Athens. The kid is living a dream and whether some believe it or not, AM is trying to pass that dream along to all of us. Get the young puppy some protection, then he can stand in the pocket like his coaches ask of him. Will leave that alone.
Hoping that the young players take a solid look at what happened to one of them this past week and think twice about their actions. Have to say this, no place for what happened between player and girlfriend. Probably a good thing that I am not the judge overseeing this incident, probably many thousands of UGA fans would hate me forever. Men don't hit women.
Agree with you on let us play the season out, and we will. Look back over 2012 and hope that not only winning games is the only criteria, building the program for years to come should be the answer. From where I sit, our problems in the recent past come from a lack of foresight. Always keep the two lines of scrimmage loaded, results will follow, year after year.
Happy trails to you, your family and of course Georgia. She is family . . . . silly me . . .

Buc,
As long as Mac is AD we will continue to improve. I truly believe that he has all the coaches at UGA on a short chain.
They all understand his expectations.
I never became a dog lover until later in life, sadly never had a dog growing up.
You have to be an animal lover to understand how they grow into your lives.
Does not matter what kind of day your having they are always glad to see you.
Enjoy the weekend my friend.

Hey yd1, great post, as always . . . keeps my Fridays fun.
You said in your post that your scenario is "far-fetched". I really don't think it is at all. Let's go back to 1980 for a second. Do you remember (I know you do . . . I'm asking for effect here) how that season went? That was a white-knuckles-roller-coaster-try-to-keep-your-lunch-from-coming-up season.
The very FIRST game, we STOLE it from Tennessee, using the bull-in-a-china-shop Herschel Walker performance. Just two games later, we EKED one out over Clemson at home. Got a scare from, of all teams, Ole Miss. Then came the show down between our beloved Herschel and the hated arch-enemy, George Rogers. George won the stat game (unless I'm really mistaken), and then he won the Heisman, but we won the game - barely. Then came the "joy ride" that was Jacksonville, pinned inside our own 8 yard line, when the Florida safeties took one play off and ignored Lindsey just long enough for Buck to direct him into the open. And the Sugar Bowl that year? Remember the kickoff following our opening field goal? Those two return guys from Penn State took that play off, just like the safeties in Jacksonville. We LUCKED up and recovered at their 2 yard line, and we struggled to get it close enough for the great number 34 to do his aerial acrobatics into the end zone (nobody does that anymore, do they?). What a ride . . . we did NOT dominate college football, and as a result, Oklahoma fans still say to this very day that THEY should have been national champs that year based on strength of schedule.
But I've got a Coca-Cola bottle that says otherwise.
In another post, I pointed out some great players we've had through the years that weren't coached by Dooley OR Richt. And not one of those guys has a championship ring on his dresser from his college days, either national or conference. But I think we can get there . . . we're closer now than we've ever been in our history, at least since 1980.

yd1....was out Friday but NEVER miss reading your "Friday Updates from God's Country".
Love your scenario....well maybe stretching a little on the last 6 second bubble screen but perfect for a UGA movie, huh?
No excuses next year (although still believe the OL will need another year).....schedule sets up perfectly and should get back to Atlanta. The West will still be very hard to beat but.....?
Hope you had a great weekend yd1......drank a cool one for you in Orlando at the Mecum Car Auctions....man what a blast !!!!! GREAT time there (except for Gator fans walking around, but my chest was stuck way out. )

UGA places Commings on probation, orders community service, anger management
ATHENS — Sanders Commings has reached an “informal resolution” with the University of Georgia in the wake of his domestic violence arrest last month.
Kris Stevens, UGA’s director of Student Conduct, confirmed that his office “reached an agreement” with the Bulldogs’ senior cornerback to be on six months probation, do 25 hours of community service, attend an alcohol education class and an anger management class.
The school conducted its own independent investigation after Commings was arrested on Jan. 21 and charged with domestic violence/simple battery. Commings was determined to have “engaged in physical abuse, physical intimidation, coercion and/or other conduct that...

UGA not only football program dealing with domestic violence issues
ATHENS – I was traveling yesterday when UGA announced it had decided on a two-game suspension for starting cornerback Sanders Commings at the start of next season.
Even though Georgia coach Mark Richt has avoided commenting on the subject so far, a spokesman told me Richt decided on the two games Wednesday after a series of meetings with Commings and conducting his own investigation into the matter. Commings, 21, was arrested by UGA police on Jan. 21 and charged with domestic violence/simple battery for allegedly hitting his former girlfriend.
Commings is scheduled for a March 22 arraignment before...

Georgia CB Sanders Commings gets 2-game suspension
Georgia starting cornerback Sanders Commings has been suspended from the first two games of the 2012 season by coach Mark Richt as a result of Commings’ arrest last month.
Commings, a rising senior, will miss the Sept. 1 season opener against Buffalo in Athens and the Sept. 8 SEC opener at Missouri, UGA announced Wednesday.
Commings was arrested by UGA Police on Jan. 21 on a charge of domestic violence/simple battery. He allegedly struck his girlfriend during a late-night argument in downtown Athens, police said at the time.
Commings has a March 22 arraignment scheduled in Athens-Clarke County state court. The incident...
