Good Morning All,

Ninety degree temps in Mid-May for Athens- Welcome Summer.

We added two commits this week to the 2016 class Clark & Clay…more to follow.

This week’s BPS…… TTT - PSDTQB-BBT

Throwback - Towel Toddy

After CMR cut WM and his crew we started searching for a new DC.

It was a painful process as it became clear that Kirby was not coming
Home. Likewise we were rebuffed by John Chavis.

There were others we didn’t hear their names. Then heard
we had signed a NFL defensive line coach…. Todd Grantham
to rebuild our defense.

Hook, line sinker and the first three eyelets is what I swallowed.

Toddy was going to turn it around!!!

Three years later….. we had us a Edsel parked with a For Sale sign in the
window. Looking back a big clue to the pending doom was the
completely lackluster staff he put together.

Yes I bought….just give him more time….wait until he gets his players….

Well….. we know how that turned out….

The best thing that came out of this 3 year experiment was….

Thanks to his abrasive and arrogant attitude and the lack of results the
embarrassment ended at 3 years. I shudder to think if he made any
progress that we would still could be driving that Edsel.

A glaring difference to me between CJP and TTG is that CJP made
Improvements with the players he had many who were freshman.

As time passed it became obvious if CMR knew he made a mistake.

I think CMR knew very early that he had talked himself into this hire.

Pro Style Quarterback or Dual Threat

Looking back over the BCS NC teams the Dual Threat QB that sticks out
was Cam. Has CNS ever one a NC with a running QB?

The argument can be made that AM success was directly connected to
having him run less and read “D” more. He developed as a pocket
passer. He made himself learn and get better all leading to the
opportunity to play in the NFL.

Belk Bowl thoughts again….

Just thinking how we showed up to play all 4 quarters with no letup.

This makes me think there was a serious amount of change that took
place with our team and coaches prior to the game. No fogged minds.

We were looking for an OC to replace CMB. CMR could have played safe and promoted for within.
CBmac was a name that was floated here and elsewhere.

After the BB there was little that could be said against the job CJL did.

Unlike his hire of TG this time I think he let his feelings about the candidate rule rather than talking himself into taking a chance.

Following this thinking I think CBS had to convince CMR that he wanted to work with college players with a focus on teaching.

I also believe that CJP sat in during part of CBS lengthy interview process.

I have posted before that I feel CJP has the HC’s ear and that CMR has come to trust CJP’s thinking.

Further proof to me is how CJP was in the mix for hiring CRS another member of the Bama gang….A very good thing.

CMR has made a very pointed effort to surround himself with a group of coaches who have both a desire and commitment to winning.

IMO this translates to the recruiting success we are enjoying.

Word from Prez and McScrooge………..

Fast tracking IPF. Construction to begin after this season ends.

Location right in the center of the BM Complex

Working drawings and costs to be ready early July.

If Turner is the prime contractor like they were for the new Vet School they will have it ready for fall camp 2016.

Yes artwork will still be hung with a formal dedication later.

Home coming weekend would fit nicely.

Monday is Memorial Day….. with every passing year it means more to me.

Looking at current events even more glaring the need we have for a strong military.

Thank you to all who served and are currently serving. “God Bless you and your family”

Pause and give thanks

Have a great weekend and a safe week

As always “Go Dawgs”

As every week, you bring up some interesting thoughts, yankeedawg1. One portion of the BPS that caught my fancy was the following . . . .

Looking back over the BCS NC teams the Dual Threat QB that sticks out
was Cam. Has CNS ever one a NC with a running QB?

Therein lies what I believe to be "one" of the reasons that Nick Saban is and has been a successful head coach at more than one stop.

Saban insists on everyone playing the team game upon arrival in Tuscaloosa. Whether offense or defense, if you want to play on Saturdays, there is only one way to do so, and that lesson is learned quickly. Example of that . . . . Alvin Kamara rode up with his press clippings, butt hit the highway after one short season playing for Nick Saban. Actually, not playing, sitting on the bench.

I would venture this . . . . after what Cam did to Nick Saban's team, the head coach began to look closer at a change, a change that in my opinion he would make at the quarterback position if it was required to win football games. That is the key, Nick Saban/Kirby Smart have been on a huge run for several years. When they call, high school players listen. All we need to do is check the number of players that have left Georgia to play in the State of Alabama. With talent the likes of those that choose to play in Tuscaloosa, no need to do a lot of things differently.

Never do I have a second thought about coaching philosophies. Head coach is hired, most have one way of coaching football. Have watched different coaches come and go in Athens, one thing has remained the same . . . . same playbook with little change in decades. Guarantee is this . . . . Mike Bobo will run the same offense in Colorado as he ran as a player for UGA and as offensive coordinator.

Just a thought.

Saban did not need a dual threat QB. Not with the RB's and receiving corps he had when he won his NC's. McCaron was more than adequate and Saban is not prone to brain farts as often as you know who.

I need more convincing that this coaching staff can get the job done. Grantham had a good first year also and did not really have as much talent as Pruitt did in his first year. IMHO this is the year regardless who is under center that we should win the SEC. Chizak and Saban won with lesser talent then we have now. We are not weak at WR like the media professes that we are. If the players we have now and the ones coming in cannot get the job done then it sits squarely on the coaches. So tired of hearing how good they are after 1 year on board. Talk about change is cheap the only thing that will convince me are results on the field.

Thank a Vet today and pray for the ones who paid the ultimate price so we can FREELY share our opinions.

A thought.

Blake Sims played quarterback in Gainesville, Georgia. Had his choice of universities to play for.

What happened to Blake Sims in Tuscaloosa is the same thing that happened with AM in Athens. Both young men had their wheels removed, they were basically grounded. Blake Sims did not become a dual threat quarterback upon his arrival in Alabama, he drove high school coaches in Georgia nuts when he pulled the football down and took off.

Not every young man is going to put in the time and effort that AM did to play "within" the system. Reality is . . . . check Faton Bauta's career out at UGA.

The game played by Alabama and Ohio State. meyer let his quarterback not only throw the football, had approval to run the football, and did.

If we are going to play a pro style offense, live in the pocket, then recruit that way. Totally unfair to young men coming in and wearing headphones and walking the sideline. Will never be convinced that Faton was told that he could not play quarterback at Georgia because of his running ability. Faton would have had a heck of a career at quarterback playing for Auburn and Ohio State, and also when meyer was coaching Florida. A special young talent that has done everything asked of him.
