TOPIC: The Game Is A Changing

The Game Is A Changing 19 Apr 2012 15:27 #1

"We don't line up and run out of I-formation that much anymore" Jeff Fisher said. "The days when you lined up with the running back deep in the backfield and let him watch the blocking develop, that's done. Maybe once in a while or after you've been lucky enough to build up a lead and you're grinding it out in the second half. But that's situational stuff, not your base offense."

While this statement was made by a pro coach ..it is somewhat true about college football as well.

bulldawg36869, Meyer is about to spring this on the Big?. Will probably be very successful as he was in Gainesville. Good to see you back. :)

Really interesting quote here. Agree with you Bulldawg36869, the line btw. NFL ball & college football is growing thinner every year.

Brings me to this, I would really like to see the Dawgs mix up the running plays a bit more, even something basic. Where has the fullback dive been for the past 4-5 seasons??? Gotta have an Oline that really punishes AND a stud RB to get in the I-form and pound out 1st downs against elite SEC defenses. Still, I'm cautiously optimistic about our stable of ball carriers becoming the strength of our team before seasons end.

Buc,

I don't like it but I do believe Meyer competes for BCS Titles in just a few years.

Guaranteed, Goose. With the Big Whatever's limp schedule and the media's love of the Big Whatever, he may be playing for it this year.

bulldawg36869, interesting comment from Jeff Fisher. Brings to mind TBow and the Jets. Appears to me that there will be a radical change on the offensive side of the ball for the Jets.

Can't speak for the UGA offensive coaches, do know that Faton Bauta has all of the tools to run a different offense along with a great arm when running the I-formation. Quarterback situation at UGA is becoming a bit crowded, guess the cream will rise to the top. Saw where one blog mentioned Faton playing tightend. Will not happen, this young man came to UGA to play quarterback and he has all of the tools.

bulldawg36869, Mike Bobo has a lot of talent at the so-called "skilled positions" would now like to see some imagination applied to use the talent effectively. Becoming creative would drive Spurrier and others out of their gourd. Would force SS to gather new film and prepare differently, has not had to do that over the past years.
