What the hell is going on in college football, not only players, coaches also. Seems to me that if you and I want a certain player to attend our university, we almost have to offer the impossible . . . . And do.

What does that say to me . . . . Much like sadlerdawg said several years back. First off, players are being offered a chance to play college football in the SEC. Next, if they are good enough, the NFL will know and offer the coin. sadlerdawg also asks the important question . . . . where does EDUCATION fit in?

Comes a time when all of us have to face this football thingy. Don’t care if you are 100 years old or 21 years old, all any of us want is for our football team to win. Period. Back in the day, the popular phrase used for young men playing football was . . . . Basket Weaving is offered, want to know what was wrong with that . . . . Some young men could not get out of the Basket Weaving Class. That was back in the all ...]]>

McGarity Is For Real . . . . Results - by: Buc http://dawgs.com/georgia-bulldog-football/52438-mcgarity-is-for-real-.-.-.-.-results.html#52438 http://dawgs.com/georgia-bulldog-football/52438-mcgarity-is-for-real-.-.-.-.-results.html#52438
Why I mention that on a board that is for the most part a football site (as most are) . . . . Greg McGarity is not going to allow coaches to continue in Athens unless they have what it takes to move forward.

His first conversation with Mark Richt seems to have set the pace. If you start your tenure at Georgia, it requires that you earn a right to continue, longevity is not guaranteed. Richt had been here for a while, Mac however was not satisfied with the way the football operation was being handled, and let Richt know that. That is good. There is a new sheriff in town.

I hope that Perno finds something that will allow him to continue to be involved in baseball. Finding a place that will guarantee $400,000 a year, might be a tough row to hoe.

Anyone feel the presence of Mac with the handling of Garner moving on? I do.

This is the type of leadership that has been missing in Athens for far too long in my opinion.

Seems to me that the Athletic Department was running in too many different directions prior to Greg McGarity returning home. There will be times when some will disagree with Mac, to be expected, have ...]]>

Future Left Tackle for Georgia - by: Buc http://dawgs.com/georgia-bulldog-football/52433-future-left-tackle-for-georgia.html#52433 http://dawgs.com/georgia-bulldog-football/52433-future-left-tackle-for-georgia.html#52433
If I am a young man in high school, really want to play in the SEC with a strong football school, of which there are many, comes a time when the position you play or hope to play gets crowded quickly.

Seems to be some chatter about some highly rated talent on the offensive line being close to moving to Athens. Hoping that turns out to be factual, believe we have learned some lessons from those that understand the benefits of having a superior Oline.

Florida is hot and heavy after the young man in the video below according to some that I talk with. Their feelings are understandable.

David Sharpe apparently is going to move to Georgia and play his senior year at Norcross. Try not to read too much into the move, it does however make it easier for Will Friend and others to communicate with David.

Young man has a serious side, as can be seen on the video, also moves really well, looks more and more like a (true) left tackle to me.

Conference Alliances? - by: ogredawg http://dawgs.com/georgia-bulldog-football/52429-conference-alliances.html#52429 http://dawgs.com/georgia-bulldog-football/52429-conference-alliances.html#52429
www.mrsec.com/2013/05/conference-schedul...pull-off-in-reality/

If the SEC does not "raid" the ACC to form a Super 18-20 team SEC this to me would be the next best option like the writer states if it could be pulled off, and who knows what lurks in the mind now that the playoff for the NC will soon be upon us.

An LSU/Syracuse, Alabama/Miami, Auburn/Pitt, TAM/VaTech on an annual basis would be interesting to say the least. Make them all a home and home type series with maybe the 3rd one being played in a major venue ( ATL, Nashville, E Rutherford or Charlotte.) Then do some type of rotation for another 3 years. Now in all fairness the games should be played early in the season due to the Southern teams having to go up north instead of late and having to play in the cold weather. Would be interesting to say the least and maybe even worth a try say for 3 years to see how it all pans out.

Any other thoughts on this pros or cons. ...]]>

From Athens- Mac - by: yankeedawg1 http://dawgs.com/georgia-bulldog-football/52426-from-athens-mac.html#52426 http://dawgs.com/georgia-bulldog-football/52426-from-athens-mac.html#52426
Mac our AD has been in the news almost daily over the past 10 days.

There has been much chatter about SEC-TV Network/ESPN and future year’s football schedules.

This got me to thinking about when Mac first returned to Athens.

In the past I have shared here about how mentoring has played a big part of both my personal and business lives.

IMO it would appear that Mac learned is trade well and gained from his years in Florida and having Foley as a mentor.

Early on I can remember him making a statement about how he was taking some non- football duties away from CMR and let him focus on coaching.

At the time it seemed to me like no big deal.

Now looking back it may have played a bigger role in turning our football program around than it did at that time.

I am not trying to sell that Mac is running a UF mirror program however Mac is too smart to try to reinvent the wheel.

I also know that there are many moving parts that have worked together to bring us where we are today.

Having said that Mac has made a difference, we have talked about having a coaching staff that is in
sync it is good to have that include your AD.

Pause and give thanks

Have a great weekend and a safe week

Stoops Recipient of "Urban Meyer Crying Towel" - by: Buc http://dawgs.com/georgia-bulldog-football/52408-stoops-recipient-of-urban-meyer-crying-towel.html#52408 http://dawgs.com/georgia-bulldog-football/52408-stoops-recipient-of-urban-meyer-crying-towel.html#52408
Bob Stoops: SEC's strength is 'propaganda'

Stoops, really don't care what name or use of language you want to throw at the SEC, just keep it up, some of the best indirect advertising for young football players the SEC could get . . . . and get this, FREE. That along with the millions or zillions of dollars the SEC will gather from ESPN, going to make the race for outsiders tougher to catch up. Remember, CBS has this thing for the SEC also.

Enjoyed what Nick Saban had to say in return when informed of Bob Stoops comments. Not only does Saban recruit and coach well, pretty damn efficient with words when "chop blocking" the Stoops sorts. Took his knees away using very few words.

Guess Nick did not find it necessary to remind Stoops to check the 2012 scores. Notre Dame against the Stoops lead Sooners. Notre Dame against the Saban led Tide. Lots of "propaganda", eh Bobby . . . .

SEC is building a record that is going to be hard for any conference to match. Talking of course about winning National Championships in a row.

Stoops not unlike Urban Meyer, using the crying towel every chance they get.

Going to make it tougher for the "outsiders" to pluck talent that the SEC/ESPN want. Great advertising move by the SEC, makes the Stoops and Meyer jobs a bit tougher as I mentioned above. My opinion. ...]]>

Touring the blogs I have seen a great deal of conversation this week about how this year’s team is quite on the off field issues.

I think it was AJ’s Jerseygate -prior to that happening I was all about AQWIA (another quite week in Athens) maybe you can recall how all that blew up very quickly.

Less not forget how Zack’s venture to the southern Georgia’s bar scene ended.

Brownies anyone or a game of tag the girlfriend?

Campus traffic stop- IC now playing elsewhere. Plus several others

Yes our recent off the field record leaves much room for improvement

Does the past make it difficult to for us to be more optimistic about this group of players?

IMO no, this group has done a good job of building a history of how they go about how taking care of their business

I also go back to the idea that this is a we not a me group of players which plays a big part in my optimism

We have spoken here before about no suspensions being a key to our success preparing for the upcoming season and it remains so.

As classes end and summer is approaching we need to remain focused on the season and work hard to report to camp in football shape.

Time to sweat the details, have fun and did I say no suspensions!

Pause and give thanks

Remember Sunday is Mother’s Day

Have a great weekend and a safe week

Georgia, Coaches and Depth - by: Buc http://dawgs.com/georgia-bulldog-football/52394-georgia-coaches-and-depth.html#52394 http://dawgs.com/georgia-bulldog-football/52394-georgia-coaches-and-depth.html#52394
This thought comes to my mind. We know that we have an offense that can and will score points. Question seems to be how quickly our defense will jell. Valid points, both.

The more that I look over our roster in 2013, actually puts a smile on my face. Reason, once upon a time, and not that long ago, don’t believe there was enough “combined” leadership on both sides of the ball to “reload”. Seems every season we were rebuilding, and that is easy enough to say and prove.

When I mention “leadership” that goes for both players and coaches. From where I sit, I put 75% of that load on the coaches. My opinion.

Some things that BMOC players never get through their young brains, time to start the maturing page in their lives. A short time back many of our recruited players that were pursued very hard came to Athens with that “you owe me playing time”. Lack of leadership on the coaching side, knowing how to manipulate on the players side. Yes, sometimes players get the better of their position coaches.

For the first time in many years I can look at both coaches and players and feel ...]]>

Thoughts About UGA Football Program Now - by: Buc http://dawgs.com/georgia-bulldog-football/52369-thoughts-about-uga-football-program-now/index6.html#52369 http://dawgs.com/georgia-bulldog-football/52369-thoughts-about-uga-football-program-now/index6.html#52369
Todd Grantham, have mentioned a couple of times, this is your group, looking forward to progress. Many of us see depth being built, do have to go back to one of your comments. You came to Georgia to play for National Championships. I don’t doubt that for a minute, you are wired that way.

Many say that we came close last season, some like to say five yards separated us from playing for the National Championship. For those that “still” want to throw the “five yards” into the conversations, ok.

My thoughts on that after a considerable amount of time has passed has me taking a different look at the “five yards”. There was a hell of a lot more to that game than the last pass.

AM and the offensive group as a whole had Nick Saban, Kirby Smart and the zillions of Alabama fans in the stands scared to death.

What happened in the SECCG simply comes down to the defense not being able to stop what Alabama did to them. So, why did the defense get their butts handed to them in the second half? I am not going to blame Mark Richt for that, he does not run the defense. On occasion, Richt has to collar Grantham and tell him to cool it when his blood pressure reaches levels unknown to most. Richt is hands off when it comes to running the defense. If you think differently, you and I can have ...]]>

Georgia and I had finished a nice morning walk and were spending some time on the patio.

I was enjoying a mug of coffee and she was doing some serious work on her rawhide bone.

Being a dog of few words her question to me was what can we say we know about our football program now.

I offered the following,

I know we made the right choice for our AD

Don’t know for sure if CRG was the last of the CWM bend then break defense but he is gone. This will prove to be big both in coaching and recruiting. And our "D" will be better!

CMR has changed for the better

We now have a new school president maybe he is an Adam’s man but he may also turn out to have his own ideas. We will see soon.

Our entire coaching staff and players our focused on getting back to ATL and winning, third time is a charm right ?

Speaking of players we can play with any team is college football-IMO

CWF &CMB have grown into their jobs and will continue to prove their worth. CCW name will be added shortly.

This -Team is more about “we” than "Me". A very good thing

Pushing to open new areas to recruit from-(great pickup in getting Sony) Love it

Pride and passion to wear the “G” returning to our players and recruits.
I want to be a Bulldog!

Looking a CTG does anybody think he is clueless on what needs to be done to improve are run “D”? ...]]>
